Disrupting terror networks in Jammu and Kashmir

India's strategy to disrupt terror networks in Jammu and Kashmir

The Government of India is intensifying its efforts to dismantle terror networks operating in Jammu and Kashmir, with a particular focus on terrorists based across the border in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). This initiative aims to target over 4,000 terrorists who had fled Jammu and Kashmir over the past three decades and are currently operating from these neighboring regions. To achieve this goal, the Indian government has declared these individuals as "proclaimed offenders" and is taking steps to seize their properties within Jammu and Kashmir.

Cracking down on proclaimed offenders

The Jammu and Kashmir government, in collaboration with agencies such as the National Investigative Agency (NIA) and State Investigative Agency (SIA), has initiated a comprehensive drive to confiscate the properties belonging to these proclaimed offenders. This operation is already underway, with several properties in the Kashmir Valley and Doda district having been seized by the authorities.

Identifying the offenders

Government officials have compiled a list of approximately 4,200 terrorists who have been residing in PoK for an extended period. The Inspector-General of Registrations and Revenue is overseeing the process, ensuring that the properties owned by these individuals are effectively seized and prevented from being bought or sold.

Consequences for providing shelter

Jammu and Kashmir Police are not only targeting the proclaimed offenders themselves but also those found guilty of willingly harboring terrorists. Properties of individuals providing shelter to terrorists have also been attached, sending a clear message about the government's commitment to eradicating terror networks.
